Japan Quake of Today, 11th March

Prof. Tibaijuka expresses her sympathy and solidarity with the Japanese people through the Japan-Habitat-Association.

Following the massive quake of 8.9 that has hit Japan, Prof. Tibaijuka, the retired UN-Under Secretary-General and immediate former executive Director of UN-HABITAT, currently Tanzania’s Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development has sent a message of solidarity with Japan and the Japanese people at this hour of tria. Said Prof. Tibaijuka “I hope by the grace of God you are safe after this massive quake that his hit your country. My thoughts are with the Japanese people, who are always ready to help others and might now need assistance themselves. We do pray that the damage is minimal and that you find the courage to reconstruct. The resilience of the Japanese people is well known.

Prof. Tibaijuka directed her message to the Secretary General of the Japan-Habitat-Association, Mr. Iki. JHA has been mobilizing funding for a school for handcapped and albino children in Tanzania. The cooperation started while Mrs. Tibaijuka was working at UN-HABITAT and has flourished to date. Currently JHA is building pavements for the handcapped children who have to go through mud on wheel chairs. See photos!
