JOHA TRUST and the Year's Corruption Scandal By Gun-Britt Andersson Chairperson, JOHA FUND htpp/www.johafonden.com in HABARI 1:2015(1)
Anna Tibaijuka became the first top ranking political leader to fall victim of the Tegeta Escrow Account saga in Tanzania. The day before Christmas (2014) she was fired by President Kikwete for having received around one million dollars on her personal account from James Rugemalira - one of the main persons in the big and ongoing corruption transaction involving a payment from an Escrow Account at the Bank of Tanzania that occurred about a year ago. The funds were a donation for JOHA TRUST and were subsequently transferred to its account.
A long list of people received gifts/donations from Rugemalira since he came upon very green pastures after selling his 30% share in the Tegeta energy company IPTL (Independent Power Tanzania Ltd) to PAP (Pan African Power Solutions Ltd) owned by Kenyan Harbinder Singh Sethi. The money that was received by Tibaijuka was an explicit donation to JOHA TRUST.
Anna Tibaijuka has, as a main driving force behind JOHA TRUST, made efforts to mobilize financial support from the Tanzania industry for scholarships and for construction of the Barbro school and the other school in Bukoba to planned capacities. Since SIDA concluded its investment support JOHA TRUST has succeeded to mobilize a couple of big financial donations from Tanzania interests including, among others, the big industrialist Reginald Mengi.
