About Prof Anna Tibaijuka .

Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka Born to small holder banana-coffee farmers in Muleba, Tanzania and educated at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala, Anna Tibaijuka is the first highest ranking African woman in the UN system. She is a Member of Parliament for Muleba South constituency since 2010. She served as the Minister of Lands, Housing and Human settlement Development from 2010 to 2014.

The Change Maker

There are three classes of people:

  1. Those who watch things happen.
  2. Those who wonder why things happen.
  3. Those who force change in the world around them.

Certainly, Prof. Tibaijuka neither came to watch nor did she come to sit and wonder why things happen. Prof. Tibaijuka came to change things and in ways that even she herself may not have imagined when she arrived in 2000.

  • Change makers not only change the world around them, they also force a change in others as well. But in very profound ways, they themselves are changed and transformed.
  • Change makers quite often attract adulation and animosity in equal measure. This is not new.
  • Change makers often attract friends and foes in equal measure. This is also nothing new.
  • Change makers are likely to please or hurt, they inflict wounds and healing balms in equal measure. This is not new.

But then Prof Anna Tibaijuka has player her part and from today, all we have are memories: of what had been and what could have been. Today we send off Prof. Tibaijuka. Tomorrow is a new day, with a new style of leadership but the purpose of this agency for which she has labored remain unchanged.

So there she goes and here we remain for now with our memories. Let us see her off with our best wishes for change makers always bruise others. Let us forgive where we feel bruised for now and have only our memories.

We bid you speed in your next endeavors. We bid you stronger wings to soar higher like the eagle flies. We bid you stronger feet to walk, jump, and run over the higher levels of service. Above all, we bid you peace that no mortal man, no hours of labor can give. We bid you peace that no flattering lips of sycophants or dancing crowds can give you. We bid you peace and joy that is not of this world, so that we ourselves as we sow peace; shall have joy.
