I received, with profound shock, the news of the passing on of the late Mrs. Kajumulo mother to my friend Dr. Anna Tibaijuka. Please accept, on behalf of Government of Uganda and the entire nation, our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family at this most difficult time of grief.
Death has robbed us of a mother who nurtured responsible children like Dr. Anna Kajumulo Tibaijuka. Anna is one of the most celebrated African women and all the time I have known her, she is highly determined, intelligent and always willing to make things better. I salute the late Aulera Kajumulo for not only educating her children but also empowering them with confidence to serve the World.
Dr. Anna Tibaijuka is very keen with African problems and takes interest in finding solutions to the problems. There was a time we had a problem with our borders (Uganda and Tanzania). The herdsmen could not get their cattle to graze along River Kagera and this brought alot of distress to our people. His Excellency President Kikwete sent Dr. Anna Tibaijuka, by then she was Minister for Lands. I was very pleased with the way she handled these deliberations. Her wise counsel was followed and peace restored.
In Africa during our times, it was unheard of to educate a girl. It is for this reason, therefore, that we celebrate the passing on of a mother that fought a good fight.
