Prof. Tibaijuka, former WSSCC Chair and long standing member of WSSCC, arrived by local public transport to open the Council’s Annual National Coordinator’s meeting in Dar es salaam, Tanzania
On 8th June 2016 Prof A. Tibaijuka demonstrated once again her passion and commitment to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. When on her way to the meeting venue Prof. Tibaijuka got stuck in a traffic jam, she decided to leave her car behind and hop on an informal local transport, the Bhajaj.
During her openings message Prof. Tibaijuka congratulated WSSCC for its ongoing efforts to improve the lives of the poorest, recognizing the critical role that water, sanitation and hygiene plays in human development. She referred to the ambition of the Sustainable Development Goals, including targets 6.1 and 6.2. and complimented the Government of Tanzania in addressing those challenges by setting a target for an Open Defecation Free Tanzania by 2019 as well as through the Water Sector Development Program (WSDP), which includes the national sanitation campaign. Prof. Tibaijuka also commended the new President Dr. John Pombe Magufuli on championing the national sanitation campaign « Clean Tanzania ».
WSSCC is bringing together its National Coordinators from the 16 countries for a week long learning and sharing of ideas, experiences and challenges regarding the implementation of the WSSCCs supported strategic national plans. In addition, an important objective is working, as a collective, on the WSSCC strategy development process 2017-2020.
